Intensive attacks of break-in attempts are logged before the failure of the SIP server ch1.youroute.net (failure notice: http://switzernet.com/public/060801-web/news_detail.php?id=50):

 

 

No traces of successful break-in are found at this moment. The malfunctioning system was completely replaced by a new one on 2007-1-17. The new server operates without interruptions since its replacement. The call load is reestablished after the replacement. The old server and security issues are being analyzed in a lab. The SIP traffic load is balanced across additional redundant server.

 

The histogram below shows the call load (through affected servers) during and after the period of failure. The failure affected about 50% of the peak traffic:

 

 

The following charts show the rates of connected and of non-established call attempts during and after the period of the failure. During the failure, due to slow processing of SIP messages by the affected server, the rate of non-connected calls was doubled:
