Go to Internet Browser:

Press on Alt to see the menu:

Go to [Tools] è [Internet Options]:

In the advanced sheet, check “Enable FTP folder view”:

In the same sheet uncheck “Use Passive FTP”:

Once you do this, you can use the ‘My Computer’ folder, or any other local folder (Not the Browser) to access remote ftp servers (XXXX must be replaced with a true password):

If you press enter you access the remote machine with the same folder view as you are used to see your local files:

The URL format is the following:

ftp://user:password@host/path

The orange text must be replaced with the corresponding values.

Creating shortcuts (without enforcing the folder view)

You can create short-cuts on your desktop or in any local folder toward a remote FTP folder:

Right click on your desktop, or inside a folder you wish to create a shortcut, and select [New] è [Shortcut] pop-up menu. Parse the FTP URL in the location field (the string XXXX must be replaced with the true password):

Type a name for the shortcut:

Now if you click on the shortcut you will access the remote machine:

Unfortunately with the new version of Internet Explorer, the remote ftp window is opened in Internet Explorer and you cannot force a normal folder view, when accessing via shortcut. So these shortcuts are now almost useless.

With the Internet Explorer view you cannot upload files while with folder view you need only to drug and drop the files in order to upload them to the remote machine.
